The Field Museum

Step 1:

The Goal

Visitorship at The Field Museum from the African & African American community does not reflect the racial makeup of the city, the state, or the country, with just 3 percent of visitors identifying as Black or African American. The Field Museum is looking to build a relationship with those communities of Chicago that makes them feel connected, reflected and welcomed.

Step 2:

finding the gaps

We believed that with the right level of understanding, The Field Museum can create a healthy, enduring relationship with African and African American communities throughout the city. We came together as a group to help The Field Museum gain deeper insight into the thoughts and desires of the communities we are a part of.

Step 3:

We identified and recruited 5 council members to share their honest opinions, criticisms, and direction in response to various prompts and ambitions of The Field Museum. We hosted long sessions that were that generated a roundtable discussion where we reviewed assets, statements and strategies of the The Field Museum.

Step 4:

KNDRD worked with artists as collaborators to develop small hands-on workshops to support the Africa Fashion exhibit. This bi-weekly hands-on workshop offered a repeatable way to engage with African Fashion. Designed for smaller audiences, the sessions explored artistic elements from the exhibit through guided, interactive activities.
